In communities scarred by armed conflict, trauma, and educational disruption, play is a vital act of resistance and recovery. To help children reclaim their childhood and foster inter-community healing, the New Hope Reconciliation Center (NHRC) recently brought youth together through the universal language of sport.

Hosting the Inter-School Peace Cup at Madegu Stadium in Minembwe is more than just a tournament: the initiative served as a platform for psychosocial resilience, social cohesion, and grassroots reconciliation, uniting:

🏫 4 Primary Schools

👥 1,264 Students

🤝 87 School Officials

Peace Cup Award for the winner

In true alignment with the spirit of peacebuilding, competition took a backseat to solidarity:

  • 🥇 1st Place: UEMI and Kiziba Pri;ary school
  • 🥈 2nd Place: Mufariji and Mibunda primary schools

Beyond the Scoreboard: Emphasizing that healing matters more than victory, all participating teams were honored with the Peace and Fair Play Award for exemplifying mutual respect, friendship, and reconciliation on and off the pitch.

📈 Lasting Community Impact

  • 1,351 Direct beneficiaries reached
  • 2,000+ Indirect beneficiaries engaged through broadcasts on Radio NGOMA YA AMANI (UEMI)

Football is much more than a game—it is a lifeline for healing, a bridge across divides, and a catalyst for lasting peace.

NHRC – Together, let’s build hope. Together, let’s build peace.
